What are we looking for?

› We accept submissions for both the FM and AM channel.

› Your text or pitch can be about anything: soap operas, liquid soap, emergence theory, extraordinary events or experiences, Alan Alda, ceramic ducks, the thrills of the mundane, pfeffernusses, ephemera, or office politics. It could be in the form of narrative, interview, humour, anecdote, exposition, micro-essay, or open letter.

› There are no set themes and we don’t privilege timeliness or topicality. In fact, if your pitch is too time-dependent it’s unlikely to be pursued.

› Let us know if the piece you are submitting has been published previously and, if so, where. Remember to include your name, number multiple pages, and to specify which channel your piece is pitched at.

Good things for you to know

› We produce audio pieces between 4-20 minutes. 160 written words translate to about one minute in speech.

› Our stories are sourced from Australasia, and we’re steadfast in our geographical fidelity.

› We are currently unable to accept pie charts, line graphs or Venn diagrams — but we’re working on it. We don’t work with poetry or radio plays at present.

› We review new submissions quarterly and erratically, and we do so with a fine-tooth comb. We are thorough and few, so it can take some time for us to respond to your pitch.

For all submissions please email us at: broadcast@paperradio.net with the word ‘contribute’, and the name of the channel (AM/FM) you are pitching at, in the subject line.
